Not a certification course. Practice.
If you’re IRATA certified, you’ve passed the assessment. But there’s a big gap between passing and being confident on the ropes, and most jobs don’t give you time to experiment with anchor set-ups, hauling systems or rescues. Technique days exist to close that gap.
What happens on a technique day
Knots, transitions and rigging
Fundamentals, pushed further than most courses have time for: multiple anchors, edge transitions at awkward angles, and changeovers until they’re second nature.
Rescue drills
The skill most technicians practise least. Realistic scenarios: a casualty suspended mid-rope, an inert load at an overhang, hauling, lowering and counterbalance systems, repeated until the response is automatic.
Kit and system variations
A low-pressure place to try different devices and set-ups, so you can decide what works for the way you work.
Real-world problem solving
Scenarios drawn from real jobs, worked through individually and as a team.
Who it’s for
- Level 1s who want to progress faster
- Level 2s tightening up rescue, rigging or edge work
- Level 3 supervisors keeping their rescue skills sharp
- Anyone coming back to rope work after a break
- Technicians preparing for revalidation or their next level
Sessions are run by working rope access technicians and open to any IRATA technician in the UK. Group sizes depend on the venue.
Dates and booking
Technique days run monthly. For the next date, venue and price, email us or call 07724 093140.
